Poached figs

Rinse dried figs and soak them for a few hours (just add enough water to cover them). Pour the water into a pan, add 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 star anise, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cardamom pods (slightly crushed) and some orange zest. Bring to a boil, add the figs and simmer until tender. Served here with vanilla ice-cream.
